Research Associate

Emma Hedderson is a Research Assistant with SISCO, and a member of Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation of mixed Anishinaabe, Inuk and settler ancestry. Emma passionately supports various research projects with SISCO across a diversity of areas of importance to Indigenous community partners. Prior to working with SISCO she gained research experience as a Head & Heart Indigenous Research Fellow at Western University and a SickKids Summer Research Student. Emma also holds a part-time Indigenous Coordinator position with SickKids, and has a passion for Indigenous health.

Emma has an Honours Specialization in Indigenous Studies and Major in Psychology. She received a Gold Medal in Indigenous Studies for her accomplishments as the student with the highest grades in her cohort. During her undergraduate degree she took an active leadership role at Western as an Executive Member of the Indigenous Student Association (UWO), and as the Indigenous Studies Representative for the Indigenous Circles of Leadership & Support (UWO).

Ultimately, Emma is striving to contribute meaningfully to the lives of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island and for future generations. Her journey is a tribute to the legacy of her ancestors, and a commitment to uplift and empower Indigenous peoples and their voices. In her eyes, success is not measured solely by individual achievements, but by the positive impact she can have on the collective well-being of Indigenous peoples.
